New Fire Station A Little Behind Schedule, Plans To Open In September
WARSAW — Despite original projections of celebrating the open house in August, Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory’s Station 3 won’t have an open house until September.
Fire Chief Mike Wilson notified the board of a few construction setbacks during the meeting held yesterday, Aug. 7. There have been a few issues with the station’s generator, grinder pump and electric. Wilson explained that his employees are following along with the construction process and catching issues as they appear. He noted that setbacks are to be expected with any new building.
A community grand opening celebration will take place once all the work is completed and the station is operational.
The hope is for the celebration to take place at the beginning of September. The event will include a flag raising, dedication by Warsaw Mayor Joseph Thallemer, remarks from others involved with the fire department and a hose uncoupling ceremony. A hose uncoupling ceremony is a firefighting tradition that replaces the ribbon cutting. All are welcome and the exact date will be published soon.
The board approved pay application 11 to Mosaic Building Solutions, Fort Wayne, for the ongoing construction work.
The board approved the new hire/change in payroll report. Tyler Colt and Cody Bixler are joining the department as probationary firefighters. Ryan Marshall is being hired to replace a retiring firefighter. Lucas Ellsworth, Zachary Rumsyre and Anthony Shilling have completed their one year as probationary firefighters. They will be officially sworn in as firefighters at the next board of works meeting.
In other news:
- The board approved all four fire department budgets. Board members received the budgets to review at last months meeting. The budgets will be presented at the Warsaw Common Council meeting on Aug. 20.
- Wilson provided board members with an apparatus replacement plan, apparatus station assignment and personnel station assignment documents. These give the board members a better idea as to where all equipment and personnel will be located when Station 3 is up and running.
