Warsaw Teen Facing Counterfeiting Charge
WARSAW — A Warsaw teen was recently arrested after police say he gave a man he owed money two fake $100 bills.
Shawn Edward Shepherd, 19, 920 Anchorage Road, Warsaw, is being charged with counterfeiting, a level 6 felony.
On July 13, an officer with the Warsaw Police Department was dispatched to Good to Go Gas Station in reference to counterfeit bills. A gas station employee advised that a male subject attempted to pass two $100 bills. Both of these bills were found to be counterfeit.
The subject told the officer that he received the bills from Shepherd who owed him money. The subject stated he attempted to deposit the bills into an ATM and found the machine did not accept them. He then attempted to change in the bills for smaller bills at the gas station. According to the male subject, he had no knowledge that the bills given to him by Shepherd were counterfeit bills.
On July 18, the officer made contact with Shepherd. Shepherd admitted that he gave the bills to the male subject and he knew they were counterfeit bills.
Shepherd was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail on Aug. 3, with a $5,750 surety and cash bond.
