Syracuse Library Features Many Adult Activities
SYRACUSE — Scott Workman is bringing the gorgeous sounds of acoustic guitar with a concert on Wednesday, Aug. 8 at 6 p.m. to the Syracuse Public Library. A cheese bar and recognition of volunteers of the Syracuse Library starts the evening’s performance. Workman teaches at both Grace College and Manchester University has an advanced degree in classical guitar.
On Tuesday, Aug. 7, the library begins a series of weekly support group meetings for people who want to de-clutter. The sessions begin at 1 p.m. with the doors closing at five minutes after. Anyone who wishes to attend the meetings is welcome to come to some or all of the meetings. A facilitator and another person experienced in personal management of their own stuff will guide the discussions.
Two books are recommended for discussion in August. The new book club, Turkey Creek Readers is reading “Midnight Plan of the Repo Man,” by Bruce Cameron. The story tells about what goes on in the mind of a repossession professional in Minnesota. The one-hour meeting uses a variety of discussion styles to uncover themes. The August meeting is on Monday, Aug. 13 at 4:30 p.m.
Anywhere, anytime, lifelong learning is reading the first hundred pages of the “Invention of Nature: Alexander Von Humbolt’s New World” by Andrea Wulf. George Arnold a naturalist, teacher, and researcher is leading a discussion about an age when scientific processes began to explain the world. Von Humbolt invented the concept of world-wide systems. The August meeting is at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 20.
The Syracuse Library and the National Science Foundation are presenting an experience with sculpture. Tickets are on sale for a bus trip to spend the day in Grand Rapids on Saturday, Sept. 22. The cost is $35 and includes admittance to the Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park and an afternoon viewing ArtPrize exhibits.
