WACF Offering Free Wetland Adventures On Wednesday
SYRACUSE — The WACF Education Team offers Wetland Adventures free to elementary age children and a parent on Wednesdays during July. These activities take place from 9 to 11 a.m. at the WACF Education Center on SR 13, Syracuse.
Each week there are different activities. Last week, children learned about stream life and water flow. They also made a take-home miniature wetland, a frog craft and an experiment to watch seeds germinate. Plus, children participated in the ever-popular canoe scavenger hunt along our lakefront shoreline. The first adventure, children learned about a food web, looked at plants and invertebrates that live in the water and made a rainbow fish.
This Wednesday, July 25, is safety day. Representatives from the Red Cross will be on site to fit life jackets properly. Children will learn how to throw a lifeline and how to stay safe in a storm, a fire and other catastrophes. Children will also decorate an emergency pillowcase – each child will receive one which will be filled (at home) with their favorite toy, stuffed animal, change of clothes, food, water, flashlight and other necessities that might be needed in case of an emergency. A craft and canoe scavenger hunt will also take place. It’s a jam-packed adventure just waiting for you to join us.
Please join the fun at 9 a.m. Wednesday, July 25, at Ruddell Pavilion at the Education Center on SR 13, Syracuse.
