New Tracks In Place In Milford, Crossing Work Still Underway
MILFORD — It didn’t take long for the new tracks to be put in place and the old tracks moved to the outside by the dual rail gang with Norfolk Southern Sunday and Monday morning in Milford.
Crews worked Sunday from south of Milford to Fourth Street installing the new tracks. Monday’s work focused on the final leg of the installation — from Fourth Street to the interchange with CSX in Milford Junction.
More than 20 pieces of equipment, each having its own purpose, rolled through town toward Milford Junction including a number of individuals walking the track taking care of rail spikes and other debris not picked up by the equipment. The equipment included machinery with large magnets picking up plates and spikes along the tracks, a welder cutting up the old tracks, and machinery that gauged the tracks width.
Most of the work that still needs to be completed is the removal of the old rails, and installation of the new crossings. This includes removal of the stones for temporary crossing use, installation of rubber guards and asphalt paving.
Here is a look at some of the equipment that rolled through town.
