Barbara L. Driskell
Barbara L. Driskell, 82, North Manchester, passed away at 3:10 p.m. on July 9, 2018, at Timbercrest Healthcare Center, North Manchester. One of three children, she was born on June 4, 1936, to Lee J. and Pearl (Robinson) Helm in Kansas City, Mo.
After graduating from Northeast High School, Kansas City, Mo., where she was in Honors Society, she married Joseph Driskell on Sept. 24, 1954. The two were married for 63 years and had two children. During these years, she was a self-employed piano teacher for 50+ years. She taught mostly children and teenagers. After doing this for many years, she started teaching the sons and daughters of her former students. She often joked that if she started getting the grandchildren of the students she once taught, it was time for her to retire.
As member of Sycamore Hill Baptist Church for 18 years and Maywood Baptist Church for 60 years, church life was an important aspect of her life. It was here that she taught Sunday school for youth and adults, lead the choir, read comical parades that she wrote, and played piano for Sunday services. Barbara was a loving and nurturing wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She and Joseph had an open door policy for people who needed help and guidance in life.
Barbara Driskell will be loving remembered by her husband, Joseph Driskell, North Manchester; one daughter, Debra J. (Robert) Lynn, North Manchester; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Pearl Helm; one son, Gary L. Driskell; and two sisters.
Service times are pending. Arrangements are entrusted to McKee Mortuary.
