Township Board Approves Proposed Fire Department Budgets
SYRACUSE — Turkey Creek Township Advisory Board Monday, July 9, approved Fire Chief Mickey Scott’s proposed 2019 operations and equipment fund budgets.
Scott requested $1,822,092 for operations.
“This budget represents an increase of $126,238,” said Scott. “Of that amount, we are projecting to provide funding of $45,000 from increased EMS billing revenue. The overall budget increase to taxpayers would be $81,238.”
Scott also proposed a total of $765,000 for the equipment fund: $45,000 to replace SCBAs and oxygen bottles, $300,000 as a first payment for new fire engine; $300,000 to apply toward station renovation costs and $120,000 to purchase three new cardiac monitors.
The board also approved the fire board’s recommendation to award a contract for fire station renovations to Milestone Construction of Syracuse for $508,000.
Township Trustee Barb Griffith reported her office dispensed $3,671.45 in township assistance in June:
• $675 for rent
• $2,695.44 for utilities
• $301.01 for food
Griffith announced she will meet with the state department of local government finance to review the township’s 2019 budget at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, at Warsaw City Hall. She invited all interested board members to attend.
Scott thanked the members of the community who participated in the fire department’s annual fundraiser held Saturday, July 7, at Station 1 in Syracuse. Proceeds from the event will go to help the department purchase new equipment.
The board will next meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 13, in Syracuse Town Hall.
