Warsaw Man Faces Charges After Knife Attack
WARSAW — A Warsaw man is facing charges after allegedly attacking his father with a knife.
Abel Salas, 19, 3762 W. Old Road 30, Warsaw, is being charged with intimidation with a deadly weapon, a level 5 felony; attempted domestic battery with a deadly weapon, a level 5 felony; and domestic battery, a class A misdemeanor.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, on June 16, officers with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department responded to a battery incident at Maple Leaf Farms. Officers spoke with a male who advised that his son, Salas, took a knife from a female by force and came after him. He reported that he was able to defend himself without being stabbed or cut during the attack, although complained of pain to his neck and shoulder from fighting Salas off.
The male advised that Salas took medication for mental illness while living in Mexico, but said Salas has not taken the medication since moving to the United States. Officers spoke with the female, who stated that Salas grabbed her by the wrist and took a knife from her by force. She observed Salas attacking his father, and was able to grab the knife back from Salas.
Officers spoke with Salas, who advised he was angry but could not remember why.
Salas was booked at the Kosciusko County Jail on June 16, with a $10,250 surety and cash bond.
