Melvin L. ‘Pete’ Stewart
Melvin L. “Pete” Stewart, 75, Syracuse, died unexpectedly from heart failure at 11:03 a.m., Tuesday, July 3, 2018, at Parkview Regional Hospital, Fort Wayne. He was born Dec. 20, 1942, in Mishawaka to Elmer and Lucille (Mattern) Stewart.
Mr. Stewart lived his lifetime in this area. He was a retired farmer and had also worked for the State Highway Dept. He loved his family and enjoyed farming and old farm equipment.
Surviving are his children, Jerry (Heather) Stewart, Brian Stewart, both of Syracuse; Teresa Andrews, Goshen; nine grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; sisters, Elsie Zumbaugh, Bremen; Betty Morgan, Mishawaka; Ann Mason, South Bend; and Edith Garner, Nappanee. He was preceded in death by a grandson and brothers, Kenneth, Harvey, and Edward Stewart.
Family and friends may call from 3-7 p.m. Saturday , July 7, at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Sunday, July 8, at the funeral home. Burial will be in South Union Cemetery.
