Mentone Trash Pickup Delayed Due To Holiday
MENTONE — For residents of Mentone, putting out the trash will occur on a different day this week due to the upcoming holiday.
“Trash pickup this week will be Thursday, July 5, instead of Wednesday,” said Town Board Member Tim Croy at the town’s monthly town board meeting Monday, July 2.
Trash pickup will resume on its regular schedule the following week.
In other business, the board approved a change in property, liability, auto and law enforcement insurance that will save the town more than $7,000.
Board President Jill Gross told the board that the new insurance, sold through the same agent as the previous policy, would cost $11,078 as opposed to the previous policy cost of $18,128.
The town’s water superintendent, Josh Shepherd, told the board his department was in need of work in the department’s workshop, as well as in need of new lawnmowers.
“I told you last month I was going to check on some mowers,” Shepherd said. “I’d like to be able to trade in two and get two new ones.”
Shepherd told the board that one of the two new ones would have a dump and a seat bagger on it. “They start out at $13,000 apiece and he [Greenmark Equipment] gives us a discount, which gets us down to $10,000 apiece and the bagger is $3,550,” said Shepherd.“So, that puts us at $23,550.”
Shepherd said he would be trading in a 2011 for $3,550 and a 2013 for $4,750. “So, when you subtract the trade-ins, it ends up at $15,250,” Shepherd said. Shepherd also told the board that he needed approximately $4,000 from his budget for new windows and doors, including a new door where one currently does not exist.
The board approved both the equipment request as well as the shop renovation.
