Bonnie Kay Skillman
Bonnie Kay Skillman, 78, Fort Wayne, previously of Florida, died at 3:55 p.m. Sunday, June 24, 2018, at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home, Fort Wayne where she was admitted on Monday.
She was born March 20, 1940, in Terre Haute, a daughter of the late Morgan and Fern Isabell (Hash) Simmons. Her formative years were spent in Clay City where she graduated from high school.
In July of 1957, she was united in marriage to Wallace Virgil Hughes. Mr. Hughes died January 2, 1963. In 1964, she married Arthur Eugene Skillman. They divorced in 1969.
She ran Skillman Insurance Agency in Fort Wayne assisted by her former husband “Gene” Skillman.
She is survived by her children, Rory D. (Diane) Hughes, Columbia City; Vint M. (Brenda) Hughes, Warsaw; and Gwendera L. (Danny) Egyed; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three brothers, Floyd (Carol) Simmons, New York State; Wallace “Wally” (Martha) Simmons, and Ora (Sharon) Simmons both of Columbia City; a sister, Eleanor Jane Everly, Columbia City; and her former husband, Arthur Eugene “Gene” Skillman.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Maxine Burwig, Lilly Duneweg, Phyllis Workman and Mary Hooker-Kessel and 3 brothers, James, Robert and Ernie Simmons.
The funeral service will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. Burial will be in the Nolt Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
