Two From Claypool Arrested For Stealing Legos
KOSCIUSKO — A man and woman from Claypool were arrested after stealing a Lego toy from Walmart.
Maryellen Marie Stephens, 36, 7388 Justus Stephens Lane, Claypool, is being charged with making a false sales document, a level 6 felony; and theft, a class A misdemeanor.
Richard Michael King, 39, 7338 W. Justus Stephens Lane, Claypool, is being charged with theft, a class A misdemeanor.
On April 8, officers responded to a report of theft. A Walmart employee informed officers that on April 5, she discovered a suspicious return of a Star Wars Lego set. Upon reviewing video footage, the employee found a false UPC code had been used to purchase the item.
A female, identified as Stephens, entered the store and selected a Star Wars First Order Star Destroyer Lego set valued at $159.95. Stephens then went to a self check out and scanned the item as a Classic Creative Box Green Lego set valued at $4.93.
Stephens then left the store and went into a vehicle. Two male subjects exited the and went into customer service with the stolen Lego set to return it without a receipt.
One male subject provided his identification, identifying him as Richard King. He was issued a refund of $171.16 on a Walmart shopping card.
Both Stephens and King were booked into the Kosciusko County Jail on June 26, each with a $5,250 surety and cash bond.
