Alvin D. Borkholder
Alvin D. Borkholder, 76, Nappanee, died at 2 a.m., Saturday, June 23, 2018, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, where he had been a patient since Wednesday. He was born July 2, 1941, in Nappanee to Daniel J. and Emma (Coblentz) Borkholder.
Mr. Borkholder was a lifetime resident of Nappanee. He was a retired farmer and a Bishop in the Old Order Amish Church.
On November 29, 1962, he married Ruth Ann Schwartz. She survives along with their children, Marlin A. (Kristina) Borkholder, Steven A. (Waneta) Borkholder, James A. (Carrie) Borkholder, Rachel A. (Michael) Hostetler, David Lee (Vonda) Borkholder, Mark A. (Roseann) Borkholder, Rebecca A. (James) Hochstetler, all of Nappanee; Edward Ray (Diana) Borkholder, Floyd A. (Jane) Borkholder, John Glen (Edna) Borkholder, all of Bremen; Joseph A. (Ruby )Borkholder, Regina A. (Floyd) Hochstetler, Jesse A. (Angela) Borkholder, all of Wakarusa; 63 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; sisters: Katie Whetstone, Laura D. (Oscar Jr.) Schmucker, both of Nappanee; Anna Mae Bender, Bremen; and sister-in-law, Velma Borkholder, Bremen.
He was preceded in death by a son, Daniel Borkholder; grandson, Galen Jon Hochstetler; brothers, Freemon, John, Eli Borkholder; sister, Sara D. Borkholder; and brother-in-laws, Joe Whetstone and Floyd Bender.
Family and friends may call after 2 Sunday, June 24, and all day, Monday, June 25, at the family residence (783 Plymouth-Goshen Trail). Funeral services will be at 9:30, Tuesday, June 26, at the residence of Oscar Schmucker Jr., ( 951 Goshen Plymouth Trail). Officiating will be Bishop Wilbur Kuhns and the Home Ministry of the Old Order Amish Church. Burial will be in Borkholder Cemetery.
