James Mooney
James E. Mooney, 78, Rochester, was surrounded by his loving family when he passed away at 4:39 p.m. Thursday, June 21, 2018, at his home.
In London, Ky. on April 18, 1940, Jim was born to John and Edna Cheek Mooney. Growing up he shared his childhood with four sisters. As a teenager, he moved to Rochester with his mother. In 1960, Jim graduated from Rochester High School. While in high school he acquired a great skill set with automobile body shop and restoration classes.
On May 13, 1972, in Rochester, Jim and Nancy Huntley were married. They shared 46 years of life’s adventures. As the patriarch of the family he was the proud father of three, grandfather of of eight and blessed with eight great-grandchildren.
As a skilled tool and dye maker, Jim worked for multiple corporations. The last 17 years he was in tool and dye at Federal Mogul in Leiters Ford. Later Jim began his dream job, as the grounds keeper superintendent at the Round Barn Golf Club at Mill Creek. With meticulous efforts and a keen eye for perfection, Jim restored his shiny, blue 1948 Chevrolet Business Coupe to mint condition.
He was a loyal member of the Whippoorwill Community Church. Later in life, he took up the game of golf. Since 1985, for the next 24 years he and his golfing pals annually traveled to play golf at world class courses at Myrtle Beach and Sumter, South Carolina. Many memories were made with his kids and grandchildren as he served as the speed boat captain, pulling them skiing and tubing over the sparkling waters of Lake Manitou.
Left to cherish Jim’s memory are his wife: Nancy; a daughter: Kim McGlothin and husband Jim; two sons: John Mooney and wife Julie, and Jeff Mooney and companion Mary Kelly, all of Rochester; eight grandchildren: Maegan, Lauren and Grant McGlothin, Lindsey Kozubik, Brittany Kozubik, Thadd Mooney, Nicole Rostron, Daytona Ropp; eight great-grandchildren; sister: Cleda Janke, Greenwood; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are his parents, John and Edna Mooney, and three sisters: Nora Lee Crook and twins, Gracie Mae Stockdale Alderson and Glacie Faye Grubbs.
A celebration of the life of James E. “Jim” Mooney will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 26, 2018, in the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 West 18th St., Rochester. Pastor Brian Sewell will officiate. Friends may visit with the family from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, June 25, 2018, and one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment will be in the Rochester IOOF Cemetery.
