Ronald D. “Ron” Smith, 70, Syracuse, passed away at 4:08 a.m. on Friday, June 22, 2018, at his home. He was born on Nov. 27, 1947, in Warsaw, to Richard D. “Dick” and Betty J. (Nealis) Smith.
He was a lifetime Milford and Syracuse area resident and graduated in 1966 from Milford High School. He was married on Feb. 18, 1967, in Milford, to Connie J. (Biller) who preceded him Aug. 22, 1997. On March 28, 1998, in South Bend, he married Bernita B. (McGrew) Kiefer, who survives. He was the former owner and operator of Smith Sanitation & Smith Floral & Balloons both in Milford, former co-owner of Smith Flower & Gift Shop in Milford for 23 years, formerly worked at Christner Sunoco Oil in Goshen for ten years, and was a transport driver for local RV companies.
He formerly attended Living Gospel Church in Nappanee and formerly served on the Milford Volunteer Fire Dept.
He is survived by his wife: Bernita Smith, Syracuse; daughter: Angie (Scot) Robbns, Syracuse; son, Ryan (Jeanna) Smith, Goshen; two step-daughters: Lori (Mike) Kiefer-Parker, Warsaw; and Kimberly (Chris) Rodak, Syracuse; six grandchildren; four step grandchildren; four great grandchildren; six step-great grandchildren; mother, Betty Smith, Goshen; brother, Dan (Pam) Smith, Gunnison, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his father, 1st wife, and granddaughter, Ashlee Auer.
Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, June 24, at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St. Syracuse. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 25, in the funeral home with Pastor Sheldon Callahan of the Vineyard Community Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Milford Cemetery.
