Burglars Clean Home Out, Including Grandmother’s Ashes
INDIANAPOLIS — Home Burglars have forced a mother of three, struggling to make ends meet, to start from scratch.
Thieves literally emptied her home of furniture, electronics, clothing, food and the best memory she had of her grandmother.
Ashlee Bishop returned to her home this Fathers Day weekend on North Gladstone Avenue off of East Washington only to find someone had broken into her duplex rental.
Everything including what she cherished the most, her grandmothers ashes.
Her grandmother was like her best friend and go to person no matter what.
“Every time I was in trouble she would come running”, said Ashlee Bishop.
Bishop showed Eyewitness News the life size photo of her Grandmother Paralee Jackson.
It’s all she has left after finding her home ransacked by burglars.
She has been away from home for a while because she didn’t feel safe and made arrangements to move.
Ashlee Bishop said, “All of my daughters clothes, her bed, everything I got her for Christmas. My son, all his clothes, the toy bin”.
Her biggest concern: the safety of her children especially after a previous break-in this spring.
In that burglary the thieves took jewelry.
In addition to the crime in the area Ashlee says not only did she have to deal with what police call “squatters” living right next door. they also had issues with homeless people living in and out of their garage.
It’s still trashed after a recent fire according to Ashlee.
Now with all of her furniture stolen she’s trying not only to make ends meet, but remain hopeful about the urn stolen from the house.
“For someone to come in your place and just take from you and then you took my grandmother’s ashes, and I can’t even get that back”, said Bishop.
Ashlee hopes to hear from the detective assigned to her case soon.
For now she calls it her only hope of ever reuniting with her grandmother.
Although she and her children have a new place to call home, people in her old neighborhood on North Gladstone Avenue hope police will do something about the mess in the back where the garage is and the open doors and windows here on the duplex.
