WARSAW — A Warsaw couple was recently arrested after being caught stealing a bicycle from Walmart.
Scott A. Coverstone, 55, 3720 N. Prairie St., Warsaw, is being charged with theft, a class A misdemeanor and theft with a prior enhancement, a level 6 felony;
Kathleen Mary Coverstone, 61, 3720 N. Prairie St., Warsaw, is being charged with theft, a class A misdemeanor; theft with a prior enhancement, a level 6 felony; and criminal trespass, a class A misdemeanor.
On May 24, officers with the Warsaw Police Department responded to Walmart in regards to a theft. The Walmart loss prevention officer advised that Kathleen Coverstone, who had previously been trespassed from Walmart, and Scott Coverstone had stolen a bicycle.
Security footage showed the couple push a bicycle to the self-checkout register. Neither of the two scanned the bicycle or made an attempt to purchase the bicycle. They then attempted to leave the store.
A Walmart greeter asked the couple for a receipt as they attempted to leave the store. They told the greeter that they were attempting to return the bicycle but were declined. The Walmart greeter told them to wait as they attempted to confirm the story with the customer service desk. Once the greeter left the area, the couple left the store with the stolen bicycle. Scott Coverstone could be seen riding the bicycle away from the store.
Kathleen Coverstone has a prior conviction of theft in Kosciusko from October 2008. She was also trespassed from Walmart in June 2001.
Both Kathleen and Scott Coverstone were booked into the Kosciusko County Jail on June 12.
