Walmart Opens Fort Wayne Milk Processing Plant
FORT WAYNE — Walmart’s newest milk processing plant has opened in south Fort Wayne.
The 250,000 square foot plant at 2150 W. Pleasant Center Road, just north of Interstate 469 off Bluffton Road, officially opened Wednesday. Bottling began last week and the plant will be at full production later this year.
Milk will be sourced from nearly 30 dairy farms in Indiana and Michigan, the farms an average of 140 miles from the plant. The plant will produce Great Value white and chocolate milk for nearly 500 Walmart stores in Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio and Kentucky.
Walmart hired nearly 200 new workers for its milk processing and transportation. A press release said the plant also “created over 100 additional jobs in the Hoosier dairy industry.”
Gov. Eric Holcomb attended Wednesday’s event at the plant.
