Township Trustee Reports Increase In Poor Relief For Utilities
SYRACUSE — In a brief meeting Monday, June 11, Turkey Creek Township Advisory Board received reports from Trustee Barb Griffith and Fire Chief Mickey Scott.
There was no old or new business presented at the meeting. Griffith presented her monthly financial report and noted an uptick in poor relief disbursements for utilities.
She paid out $2,362.02 in May, up from $1,560.16 the previous month. “I don’t know for sure, but the increase is probably from people turning on their air conditioners,” she said.
She also reported May poor relief expenditures of $369.03 for rent, $61.48 in medical and dental payments and $194.58 for food.
The food expenses declined from $348.17 the previous month. “They are mostly for those with dietary restrictions and people on Social Security,” said Griffith.
In his May report, Scott noted:
• The department is preparing for the purchase of a new fire engine to replace the 2002 model currently in use.
• The department responded to 17 fire calls and 72 EMS calls, saving approximately $80,000 worth of property from fire damage.
• Department fire and EMS personnel underwent 603 hours of training on topics such as truck and equipment operations, setting up and establishing water supply operations, paratech rescue stabilization struts, operation and maintenance of personal protective equipment and heat related emergencies.
• The monthly outdoor warning siren test confirmed all sirens were functioning correctly.
• Proposals for fire station renovations were advertised. Sealed bids are due by 2 p.m. Friday, June 29.
• The department will hold its annual pork chop and chicken barbecue fundraiser beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 7, at Fire Station 1. Pork chops and chicken halves will be $6 and corn on the cob will cost $1 per ear.
The board will next meet at 7 p.m. Monday, July 9, at Syracuse Town Hall.
