Robert W. ‘Bob’ Pifer — UPDATED
Robert W. “Bob” Pifer, 87, Winona Lake, passed away at 11:28 p.m. on Wednesday, May 30, 2018, at Grace Village Healthcare in Winona Lake. He was born Dec. 1, 1930, in Warsaw to John W. and Lillian A. (Heisler) Pifer.
He lived most of his life in the Kosciusko County area, graduated in 1950 from Warsaw High School, and was a Korean War Army veteran. On June 14, 1958, in Michigan City, he married Maxine J. (Kinsey) Harris who preceded him on Feb. 7, 2010. He retired in 1993 after 20 years in customer service at Chore Time Brock in Milford, formerly drove for Petro’s in Warsaw, and was a former reserve police officer for Kosciusko County Sherriff’s Dept. He and his wife were former owner and operators of the Jot-em-Down Grocery Store at Barbee Lake in the late 1960’s.
He was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Warsaw, American Legion Post #253 in North Webster, and life member of the Korean War Veterans in Fort Wayne. He was a former little league coach in North Webster and Warsaw, formerly served on the Van Buren and Wayne Township Advisory Boards, very active in genealogy, and worked on the County Election Boards for 48 years.
He is survived by his daughter, Marcia (Samuel) Baumgartner, Milford; son, John (Gretchen) Pifer, Tampa, Fla.; three step-daughters: Teresa Hainge, Pierceton; Melanie Beltane, Oregon; and Beth (Rick) Monroe, North Webster; 12 grandchildren and several great grandchildren; and a sister, Helen Petro, Asheville, N.C.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and sister, Shirley Swartz.
Private family visitation and services were held at Owen Family Funeral Home, SR 13 and CR 500N, North Webster, with Pastor Mike Mueller of the church officiating. Burial followed in the Oakwood Cemetery.
