Visitors Line Main Street For The Mentone Egg Festival
MENTONE — This morning the Mentone Egg Festival started off bright and early at 6 a.m. with the firemen’s pancake and sausage breakfast. Breakfast fueled everyone up for the 8 a.m. Egg City 5K Run. Cloudy skies and temperatures in the high 60’s made for pleasant weather to walk downtown. Residents lined up along Main Street to await the parade as it advanced downtown. This year’s parade theme was “The Olympics” with Eileen Bowser as the parade marshall.
Following the parade a corn hole tournament, three on three basketball, the Indiana Garden tractor pull and the barbeque contest began. Miss Chick and Mr. Rooster were also crowned. Kids games, bounce houses, egg toss and a kiddie tractor pull were available throughout the afternoon.
There is still time to get out and enjoy the Mentone Egg Festival. End your evening at the Mentone fire station. Winners of the cute baby contest will be announced and there will be the crowning of the 2018 Miss Mentone. A cake walk will also take place with Sentimental Journey Band providing the entertainment.
The annual Mentone Egg Festival kicked off Thursday, May 31, and runs through today, June 2. Thursday opened with a variety of vendors, flea markets and evening entertainment. Friday evening also included the 24th annual Egg Festival Car, Truck, Tractor and Motorcycle Show.
