The Leesburg Community Memorial Day Parade and Service was enjoyed by many on a really hot but beautiful day.
Thomas Moore welcomed all to Leesburg and gave a brief history of the Memorial Day Poppy. Veterans from all wars who were present were acknowledged. The Boy Scouts raised the flag, followed by Martin Becker playing “To the Colors.” The Pledge of Allegiance was followed by Brad Keller singing the “Star Spangled Banner.” Music prior to the parade was provided by Derick Tenney.
The parade was directed by Craig Charlton. The Veterans float was pulled by Everest Excavating. Veterans also rode in golf carts provided by Tyler Haines, Ron West, Raymond Hartman and Bob Allen.
There were many cars (including antique cars), trucks, tractors, equipment and specialty entries. Horizon Bank provided funds for those participating. The Leesburg Fire Department, Milford Fire Department, the State Police, the EMS as well as the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Deptartment participated. Floats by Clunette United Methodist Church, Leesburg United Methodist Church, Leesburg Grace Brethren Church, Maple Leaf Farms, Echo’s of the Past, Stookey Family and Polk Auction Family.
The Memorial Day Service at the cemetery was directed by Christina Archer. The music was provided by Abby Archer. Pastor Mike Beesley of the Clunette United Methodist Church presented the message. Christina ARcher read the memorial roster for teh Leesburg, Oswego and Cluntte cemeteries. The deceased were then saluted and the taps were played by Martin Becker.
Popcorn was served by the Allen family and friends. Hot dogs and drinks were provided by Maple Leaf Farms and served by the Leesburg Brethren Church.
It takes many to have a successful community event.
