Kosciusko
Officers with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department investigated the following accidents:
3:37 a.m. Sunday, May 27, South SR 13, south of South CR 525E, Pierceton. Driver: Nancy J. Smith, 54, North Mill Street, North Manchester. Smith told police she was driving her vehicle southbound on SR 13 when two deer entered the roadway. She said she was unable to avoid hitting one of the deer. Damage up to $5,000.
9:41 p.m. Friday, May 25, East Old Road 30, east of North CR 300E., Warsaw. Driver: Amy I. Troyer, 31, North Sandpoint Drive, Cromwell. Troyer told police she was driving her vehicle eastbound on Old Road 30 when a deer entered the roadway. She said she was unable to avoid hitting the deer. Damage up to $5,000.
Syracuse
Officers with the Syracuse Police Department investigated the following accident:
3 a.m. Sunday, May 27, South Huntington Street, Syracuse. A clerk at the Wilby’s convenience store told police that a red Pontiac Grand Prix entered the area of gas pumps from South Huntington Street, pulled up to the pumps and then struck one of the pumps. The clerk said the driver then fled the scene eastbound on Baltimore Street. Damage less than $750.
Warsaw
Officers with the Warsaw Police Department investigated the following accidents:
7:15 p.m. Monday, May 28, East Jefferson Street, and South McKinley Street, Warsaw. Drivers: Gordon E. Scott, 62, Lakeview Drive, Winona Lake; Tyler L. Goodpaster, 21, Old Colony Road, Warsaw. Scott told police he was driving his vehicle northbound on McKinley Street and was approaching the intersection with Jefferson Street. He said he was looking to see if a nearby park had a grill and did not notice the stop sign at the intersection, causing a collision with Goodpaster’s vehicle. Damage up to $10,000.
10 a.m. Monday, May 28, Lindenwood Avenue, south of Nuthatch Drive, Warsaw. Driver: Matthew D. Hoadley, 33, Lindenwood Avenue, Warsaw. Hoadley told police he was backing his vehicle out of his driveway when he struck a parked car that parked on the street. Damage up to $5,000.
1:02 p.m. Friday, May 25, East Winona Avenue, west of South Reed Street, Warsaw. Drivers: Richard E. Yoder, 84, East CR 450S, Warsaw; Jacob A. Kratzsch, 19, South Sandal Court, Warsaw. Yoder told police he was driving his vehicle eastbound lane of Winona Avenue and that he was stopped and preparing to turn right into a parking lot. He said he checked his mirrors and didn’t see any vehicles and that when he began his turn, he was struck by Kratzsch’s vehicle, which was approaching from the rear in the eastbound lane. Damage up to $10,000.
8:59 a.m. Friday, May 25, East US 30 and East Center Street, Warsaw. Drivers: David R. Fausnaugh, 40, North Conrad Court, Columbia City; Doris K. Chow, 43, Dora Lane, Plymouth. A witness told police that Fausnaugh was driving his vehicle westbound on US 30 and that he disregarded a red light at the intersection with East Center Street, causing a collision with Chow’s vehicle which was in the eastbound lane of US 30 and turning left onto Center Street. Chow complained of chest pain and was transported by EMS to a nearby hospital. Damage up to $25,000.
