Nevil F. Spicher
Nevil F. Spicher, 85, of Nappanee, died at 7:58 a.m. Friday, May 25, 2018, at Elkhart Hospice House where he was admitted Wednesday after an extended illness. He was born Jan. 21, 1933, in Amherst County, Va. to Earl and Ethel May (Beverly) Spicher.
Spicher lived most of his life in Nappanee. He married Shirley Sechrist on July 16, 1953, in Nappanee at the home of Rev. Tom Douglas. Mr. Spicher was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a recipient of a Purple Heart during his service in Korea. He was an electric linesman for NIPSCO for 30 years and operated his own business, Spicher Electric.
Spicher was a hard worker, but enjoyed his grandchildren. For many years, he hung the Christmas lights in Syracuse and Nappanee. He was a member of the Nappanee American Legion and a member and past commander of the Nappanee VFW. He was also a member of SOAR (Steelworkers Organization of Active Retirees).
Spicher is survived by his wife, Shirley; children: William “Delby” Spicher, Bremen, Jon Spicher, Brian (Judy) Spicher, both of Nappanee, Bonnie (Jim) Schaffer, Four Oaks, N.C., Wes Spicher, Fort Wayne; son-in-law, Paul Herrell, Nappanee; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother: Kerry Spicher, Dunlap; and sister: Fran Andrews, Nappanee. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Herrell, daughter-in-law, Bonnie Spicher; grandson, Joseph Krauss; brothers, Robert and Dean Spicher; and sister, Lorraine Plank.
Family and friends may call from 12 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee. Funeral services will begin at 3 p.m. Pastor Jason Rohde will officiate and burial with military graveside rites will be in Stony Point Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to Elkhart Hospice House.
