Wawasee Golf: Warriors Drop Final Test
COLUMBIA CITY – Just days ahead of the state tournament, Wawasee ran into one of the teams that likely will stand in its way.
Led by the dynamic duo of Spencer McCammon and Nick Decker, Columbia City racked up a 175 to best Wawasee’s 190 Thursday at Eagle Glen.
The Warriors saw regulars Zach Leedy, Dillon Drake and Evan Dippon golf in the one, three and five positions, making way for seniors Jake Cowan and Hunter Hlutke to get in a final varsity dual match. Cowan didn’t have the going-out party he hoped, shooting a 71 while Hlutke was at 61 and the fourth score.
Leedy had a very good round, ending as medalist with a 38 while Drake was at 43 and Dippon at 48.
Lawson Hawn carded a 45 for City while Wyatt Krider and Taylor Barnhart each shot 48s.
Wawasee closes its regular season with a 10-7 dual record. The Warriors will compete Saturday in the Triton Invite then look to next Friday at the Warsaw Boys Golf Sectional, needing to finish as one of the top three teams in the field to advance to the regional round.
