Ninth-Annual Blackburn Run 4 Others To Take Place June 16
WINONA LAKE — The ninth-annual Blackburn Run 4 Others will take place Saturday, June 16.
New this year is the inclusion of a 10K run, in addition to the 5K run and walk. Race day registration and packet pickup will be from 7:30 to 8:40 a.m., and the races will begin at 9 a.m. Registration costs $20 until June 3, when it will increase to $28.
Both races begin at the Trailhouse Bike Shop in the Village at Winona. The 5K will take place along the paved greenway, while the 10K will include a mix of paved greenway and cross-country running.
Proceeds from the race will benefit Water for Good, a non-profit that is dedicated to combating the water crisis in the Central African Republic through well drilling, well maintenance, and community development. Last year, the money from the race went to co-fund a well in the village of Berberati Quartier Zelem in the Central African Republic. This year, the money will outfit three well maintenance trucks.
“I am excited about the addition of the 10K to this year’s race, to bring more awareness to the lack of clean drinking water in the Central African Republic,” said Doug Koontz, organizer of the event. “Water for Good is an organization helping Central Africans solve their own water crisis. Partnering with them helps us look outside our own part of the world and realize how good we have it.”
In addition to Koontz, contributions from Miller Cattle Company, 212 Media Studios, Mud Love, Wildman Business Group, Clearwater Car Wash, and Silveus Insurance Group make the race a reality.
