Warsaw Boys Track Regional: Field Events Get Boost For Regional
WARSAW – The Warsaw Boys Track Regional will already host some of the top field performers in the state, and it will only get stronger after the call-backs were added to the field.
A quartet of field performers from Wawasee and Warsaw were included in their respective fields for Thursday’s regional, which is set to begin at 6 p.m. at the Tiger Athletic Complex. Warsaw high jumper Connor Lennox will bring his 6-1 sectional effort to the fray, which will likely have all eyes on the pit at some point or another with Plymouth’s Nate Patterson coming in as the No. 1 seed in the state with his 7-0 mark last week at the Plymouth Sectional. Patterson also comes into the Warsaw regional as one of the top long jumpers (23-00.50).
Wawasee will have both of its pole vaulters active in Eric Yankosky and Xavier Ortiz, both achieving 11-6. Shot putter Isaiah Tipping with join the throws corps with his call-back distance of 48-3. Tipping was the Northern Lakes Champion in the shot put two weeks ago.
Wawasee’s Michael Hammer came from the ‘slow’ heat of the 800 to get the call-back for the regional (2:03.76).
Warsaw has four track events getting an extra chance, notably its 4×400 relay that finished fourth (3:29.33) in a close race at the Goshen Sectional. Thomas Lemon will run in the 400 (51.39), Alijah Wade in the 100 (11.53) and Eli Owen in the 110 hurdles (15.42).
NorthWood also got a 100 dash call-back for Brayton Yoder (11.13) and has a miler returning in Tyler Evers (4:33.94).
The Warsaw regional will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, the top three in each event will automatically qualify for the IHSAA State Finals, and another round of call-backs will fill the state ledger following regional action around the state.
