Mentone Man Arrested For Theft
KOSCIUSKO — A Mentone man was arrested after surveillance video showed him stealing from a local gas station.
Billy Ray Slone, 35, 3758 S. Viking Drive, Mentone, is being charged with sentence enhanced theft, a level 6 felony.
On May 2, an officer with the Silver Lake Police Department responded to a theft at the Silver Lake Marathon. Store employees were able to advise that the subjects were still at the gas station in a red vehicle. The officer arrived and observed a red vehicle matching the provided description. Slone was identified as one of the subjects inside the vehicle.
An employee advised that she observe Slone conceal a phone charger and pass all points of pay without paying for the item. The officer obtained permission to search the vehicle and located two phone charging cables and a USB charger port for the cables. Lying next to the cables were the cable fasteners that held the cables together while they were packaged for sale.
The officer was able to obtain the surveillance video that clearly showed Slone taking the phone charger from the rack and placing it into his right pocket. Slone is then seen walking past all points of pay without paying for the phone charger.
Slone was previously convicted of theft in Kosciusko County in Feb. 2017. He was booked into the Kosciusko County Jai on May 20, with a $5,250 surety and cash bond.
