Knepple Honored With Teacher Appreciation Luncheon
HUNTINGTON — Indiana Sen. Andy Zay and State Superintendent of Public Instruction Dr. Jennifer McCormick honored Teresa Knepple, science teacher at Whitko Middle School at the Senate District 17 Teacher Appreciation Luncheon May 11.
Knepple was lauded along with 10 other teachers from each of the school corporations in Zay’s district.
According to Whitko Middle School Principal Dr. Gene Sweeney, Knepple was honored for “modeling a commitment to continuous improvement and constantly seeking new strategies to help students learn at higher levels.”
The luncheon honored teachers during the annual Teacher Appreciation Week and was held in Habecker Dining Commons on Huntington University. Honorees received a tour of Huntington County Community Center following the reception.
Knepple has coordinated the Adopt-A-Family Christmas fundraiser at WMS for the past 14 years. Currently, she serves as the Lego Robotics coach at Whitko Middle School and has for the past 16 years. She is also the Middle School Science Academic coach. Additionally she coordinates the SUCCESS tutoring for RTI needs-based students and is the vice president and active member of the Whitko Classroom Teacher’s Association for the past 24 years.
Sweeney, praised Knepple saying, “You will not find a candidate for this recognition with a deeper knowledge of best practices for helping students improve and for helping schools become better places. She leads with her heart and that is why her students excel. We are a better school community as a result of her compassion and teaching excellence. Teresa Knepple is a treasure to Whitko Community Schools, and it is a privilege to be able to honor her in this way.”
