Doris S. Strange
Doris S. Strange, 87, Grace Village Retirement Community in Winona Lake, passed away at Grace Village Health Care at 12:39 p.m. on Saturday, May 19, 2018.
She was born on Sept. 29, 1930, in Philadelphia, Penn. to Emma (Aiken) Scott and Wesley E. Scott. On June 30, 1956, she was married to Harold Strange, who survives.
She received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania, and her Master’s degree from Temple University. She was a high school teacher for two years in Merion School District, outside of Philadelphia. When she moved to the Pittsburgh area with her husband Harold, she dedicated her life to being a Mom, and was a homemaker for the majority of her life.
She was always there for her family. During her life in Pennsylvania she was a long time member of Christ Church at Grove Farm in Sewickley, Penn., where she was very much involved in church activities. She sang in the church choir, and enjoyed the Garden Club and Bridge Club. After moving to Winona Lake, with her husband Harold, they became members of the Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church. As a resident of Grace Village Retirement Community, she enjoyed the company of the many friends she made there, she especially enjoyed the Art Therapy program at Grace Village. She will be forever loved and fondly remembered by her family and friends.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 61 years, Harold Strange, Winona Lake; son: Robert (Debra) Strange, North Myrtle Beach, S.C. ; daughter: Barbara (Mark) McCollom, Warsaw; and five grandchildren: Joseph, Julie, Jenna, Zeb, and Drew. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Edna Jean Patrick, and her brother-in-law, George Patrick.
Doris Strange’s life will be celebrated at a memorial service to be held at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, May 26, at The Grace Village Chapel at Grace Village Retirement Community, 337 Grace Village Drive, Winona Lake and officiated by Chaplain Bryan Benjamin, Pastor Kip Cone, and Pastor Bruce Barlow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her name may be directed to Grace Village Retirement Community, 337 Grace Village Drive, Winona Lake, IN 46590 and designated to go towards either Grace Village or to Grace Village Art Care; or to Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church, 1200 Kings Highway, Winona Lake, IN 46590 and would be appreciated by the family.
