Warsaw Sports Wrap: May 17
Baseball
The Warsaw baseball team ended up on the short end of a 5-4 final at Mishawaka.
The Tigers led 4-3 entering the final frame before the Cavemen plated a pair of runs in their final at-bat to claim the non-conference win.
Matt Shoemaker led the Tigers with two hits.
Warsaw, now 5-15, will host Fort Wayne Snider Saturday at 10 a.m. in the first game of the Tiger Tournament.
Softball
The Warsaw softball team wrapped up league play by topping Elkhart Memorial 12-6.
The Tigers built a 7-0 lead en route to the Northern Lakes Conference win in Elkhart.
Warsaw tallied three runs in the first inning, added another in the second and plated three more in the third frame in the offensive contest.
The Tigers piled up 12 hits in the win. Courtney Chookie, along with Izzy Dittmar, Katie Anderson and Lindsey Bradley, all had multiple hits for the winners.
Chookie notched the pitching win as the junior went all seven innings. She allowed nine hits with three strikeouts and no walks.
Shelby Buss took the loss for Memorial. Ashley Asher, Morgan Kast and Cydney Lapczynski each had multiple hits for the Chargers.
Warsaw improves to 9-13 overall and finishes at 7-7 in NLC play.
The Tigers play at Tippecanoe Valley Friday night and host Manchester Saturday evening. Warsaw will then face Elkhart Central on Monday at approximately 7 p.m. in the opening round of the Class 4-A Elkhart Memorial Sectional. Host Memorial plays Goshen in the first game Monday at 5:30 p.m.
