Norma A. Dome
Norma A. Dome, 96, formerly of Sidney, died Tuesday evening, May 15, 2018, at Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester, where she had been a resident since November of 2015.
She was born Feb. 28, 1922, in Sidney, a daughter of the late Melvin O. and Florence (Nichols) Heeter. Her formative years were spent in the Sidney area. She graduated from the Sidney High School.
On April 24, 1943, she was united in marriage to George Harold Dome. They have always made their home in the Sidney area until becoming residents of Peabody. Mr. Dome died Oct. 31, 2016.
A full-time homemaker raising their four children, she also worked in the library at the Whitko Middle School for 18 years.
She was a member of the Collamer Christian Church and the Homemaker’s Extension Club. Family was her priority, and she loved being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. An avid reader, she enjoyed a wide variety of books. During the growing season, she enjoyed raising flowers. In the fall, she would can jams and jellies.
Surviving are her four children: John H. (Shirley) Dome of Sidney; Ruth Ann Dome of Hyden, Ky.; Thomas (Nancy) Dome of South Whitley; and Nancy (Dennis) Patton of Franklin; seven grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandsons.
She was preceded in death by an infant sister, Trilby Heeter, a brother, Gerald Heeter and two sisters, Erma Fretz and Mildred Priser.
The funeral service is 1 p.m. Saturday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. Burial is in the South Whitley Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home in Columbia City.
