Goshen Tennis Sectional: Panthers Post Semifinal Win
GOSHEN – The favorites held true to form in the Goshen Tennis Sectional Thursday night.
Defending champion NorthWood and Fairfield each earned convincing semifinal victories in day two of the tournament at Goshen Middle School.
The Panthers beat Bethany Christian 4-1 and the Falcons blanked Jimtown 5-0.
NorthWood will meet Fairfield in the sectional finale Friday at 4:30 p.m. The winner advances to the Northridge Regional on Tuesday to play the winner of the Angola Sectional in one semifinal. The other semifinal will pit Concord versus the winner of the West Noble Sectional. Concord blanked Northridge 5-0 Thursday night to win the Northridge Sectional crown.
Fairfield topped NorthWood 3-2 in the season opener back on April 10.
The Panthers dominated the singles courts Thursday to best the Bruins.
Sophomore Alex Jesse led the way as the sophomore notched a 6-1, 6-2 win on the No. 1 singles court over Mariah Miller.
Junior Reegan Miller was flawless at No. 2 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Meg Heinisch.Junior Gretchen Adams competed the singles sweep by downing Hannah Kaethler 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3.
The senior tandem of Kennedy Wiens and Betsy Nunemaker picked up a 7-5, 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles for NorthWood, topping the duo of Anne Nisley and Caroline Cartmel.
Bethany won at No. 2 doubles as the team of Trami Nguyen and Ana King beat junior Riley Graber and sophomore Lauren Mikel 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.
Fairfield won in straight sets on all three singles court in beating Jimtown.
Senior standout Morgan Mast posted a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles to lead the Falcons.
Senior Sidney Hcohstedler won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 singles play and senior Alexandra Swank notched a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles.
The team of juniors Madison Cole and Kylie Miller won 6-2, 2-6, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles for Fairfield. The duo of sophomores Riley Miller and Madeline Gawthrop won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 doubles play.
