Lawrence R. Thwaits — UPDATED
Lawrence R. Thwaits, 84, Syracuse, passed away on March 27, 2018, at Goshen hospital.
He was born on Nov. 28, 1933, in Goshen. He was a farmer for 20 years, broker and owner of Thwaits Realty for 21 years. He was awarded Top 10 Salesperson Goshen Board of Realtors. He was an instrument rated Private Pilot, avid fisherman and he loved bowling and was inducted into the Goshen Bowling Association Hall of Fame. He was a Mason, Lions Club member, and President of the New Paris Chamber of Commerce. His greatest treasure in life was his family.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Thwaits, Syracuse; son Dr. James (Sally) Thwaits, Syracuse; two daughters: Patty Overholt, Syracuse; and Carol (John) Ploetz, Willis, Texas; four grandchildren: Adam Thwaits, Jennifer (Thwaits) Borchelt, Amanda Ploetz and Rebecca Ploetz; six great grandchildren: Madilyn Thwaits, Simon Thwaits, Noah Thwaits, Gus Borchelt, Patrick Borchelt, and Jude Borchelt. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded by two sisters and four brothers. A private family interment was held at Syracuse cemetery.
A celebration of life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 26, at the Calvary United Methodist Church in Syracuse, with a luncheon to follow.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Calvary United Methodist Church of Syracuse or Goshen Hospice.
