Wawasee Baseball: Sac Fly Beats Warriors
SYRACUSE – Carter Miller’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh lifted Fairfield to a 3-2 win over Wawasee in baseball action at Warrior Field Tuesday night.
The game, which was moved from Fairfield to Wawasee because of flooded fields in Benton, was a preview of the first-round sectional matchup at Lakeland in two weeks between the two clubs.
Tony Garcia got Wawasee tied up at two in the seventh, getting hit by a pitch then moving up on a wild pitch and a sacrifice by Jacob Hand. Jairus Boyer drove Garcia in with a sacrifice fly.
Fairfield countered with the walk-off after Evan Connelly singled to open the bottom of the seventh. Cordell Hofer walked and Luke Stephens singled to load the bases. Miller then followed with the sacrifice fly to right to give the Falcons the win.
Miller drove in a run in the third and Fairfield plated a second in the inning on a passed ball.
Wawasee had just one hit in the game, but drew six walks and were hit by three pitches. The Warriors and Falcons both left seven on base in the game.
Braden Garrison was granted the win after working an inning of relief. Cade Gall went 4.1 innings for the Falcons, striking out two. Sam Savage was the tough-luck loser for Wawasee, pitching two innings in relief of Jacob Krugman, who gave up three hits in 4.1 innings of work.
Wawasee (8-14), which has dropped seven straight, will look to right the ship Wednesday in its final home game against Concord, which concludes the Northern Lakes Conference slate.
