CHICAGO — Much of the Chicago area remained under a Flood Warning Tuesday after heavy rains battered the region in two rounds of storms the day before.

A Flood Warning was issued for Cook, Kane, Kendall, Lake and McHenry counties in Illinois and Kenosha County in Wisconsin. The warning was expected to last several days in most areas, even through Sunday for parts of Lake County.

The warning came after two rounds of showers and storms passed through the Chicago area, prompting a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for several counties as heavy rain, lightning and even some light hail battered the region through the night.

Following a wet weekend, another band of storms developed in the western part of the Chicago area early Monday, bringing downpours that impacted the morning rush hour, flooding streets and causing limited visibility, particularly in the northern suburbs.

That round of storms cleared out by late morning, but another band developed in the late afternoon, bringing the same conditions during the evening commute.

Early Tuesday could also see a few passing showers and isolated storms, mainly south of I-80. Starting overcast, muggy and mild with areas of fog, the chance of storms was expected to fade by late morning to turn partly sunny, breezy and less humid.
