Curry Tabbed As New Memorial Coach
ELKHART – The Elkhart Memorial girls basketball program has chosen a familiar face to guide its fortunes.
Brent Curry has been hired as the new girls basketball coach in charge of the Crimson Chargers. Curry spent last season as an assistant coach for the program.
Curry replaces Jeff Wallace, who resigned earlier this Spring after one season at Memorial. Wallace resigned to accept a principal’s position at a school in Illinois.
Curry, who is also an assistant baseball coach at Memorial, has been involved with both the boys and girls basketball teams at Pierre Moran Middle School.
The Crimson Chargers finished 14-10 overall and 2-5 in the Northern Lakes Conference during the 2017-18 season. They lost 43-40 to rival Elkhart Central in the championship game of the Class 4-A Concord Sectional. Wallace had replaced Steve Scott, who stepped down after six seasons at Memorial. Scott is now the girls basketball coach at Mishawaka Marian.
Memorial loses seven seniors from this past season’s team, including four of its top six scorers.
