Syracuse Library Activities
SYRACUSE — The following activities will be held at the Syracuse Library the week of May 14 -19.
It Is Time to Get Fit After a Long Winter
People might not think about exercise when they think of their library, but the Syracuse Library helps make connections with physical activities. Anyone who can walk into a room is qualified to join easy chair yoga. An instructor with years of experience leads a half-hour class that coordinates breathing with yoga poses. Bring a large towel for a prop and come use the library’s chair at 10:15 a.m. on Tuesdays. Advanced chair yoga meets at 9:30 a.m. on Thursdays after an optional half hour of walking when they partner with the Syracuse Trails for a walk. Enter the class by knocking at the back side door of the library at 9 a.m.
There are some special events to join this spring. Geocaching is a fun way to locate hidden places by using GPS coordinates. On June 9, geocachers are meeting at the Syracuse Library to take a picture to post as part of the 15th international Geocaching Flashmob event. This is a nice way to meet people who are exploring the world through geocaching. The Syracuse Library and the Syracuse Trails are sponsoring a team to compete in the 4th annual Mudtastic Classic. Come to practice and get costume rules to be on the team on June 23.
Don’t forget that walking is a good way to get toned, so spend the evening at the Cruise In from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, May 18. The Friends of the Library are handing out popcorn and there are many cool cars so that it is a fun evening.
Other Week’s Happenings
WorkOne is at the Syracuse Library from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. every Wednesday. They are there to assist anyone, regardless of the county they live in.
Teen gaming is rolling around for another month’s battle on the Wii U and Xbox. The challenge is for young adults from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, May 17. Three controllers are provided, but Nintendo DS will sync to the eight-person game.
PICTURE: Fans of area author, Jeanne Dams, heard her talk about her personal history at a Friends of the Library luncheon at the Syracuse Library. The luncheon is an annual event.
