TRC Golf Championships: Peru Braves The Rain For Title
WARSAW – These weren’t phrases golfers and coaches were intending to say and hear at a conference championship.
“Ugh, that was awful.”
“Oh, no.”
“Crap. Nope.”
All three of those phrases came in a row off one of the tees by a trio of golfers at a soggy and windswept Rozella Ford Golf Course Saturday morning as the Three Rivers Conference dodged rain all through the tournament.
Peru would weather the weather and all of its difficulties to shoot a 340 team score and win the TRC title. Corbin Robinson not only led the team with his round of 75, it was good enough to win TRC medalist.
Manchester was eight strokes back of Peru at 348, led by ace Harley Kruschwitz’s fourth-place finish and a place on the All-TRC Team.
Tippecanoe Valley had a bright spot among the murk, with Cade Brouyette shooting a 78 to land on the All-TRC Team.
Carter Kistler shot a 103, Mason Purvis came in at 111, Bryce Madeford was one back of Purvis at 112 and Billy Gillman shot a 132. Valley would place ninth in the 10-team field with a 404.
Whitko took home fifth place with its 380. Kaleb Busz paced the Wildcats with a 91, Kylar Bryant shot a 94 and Cade Bechtold had a 95. Dale Reiff carded a 100 and Jon Strayer wound up at 117.
Wrapping up the team scores, Maconaquah was third at 374, followed by Southwood at 378, Whitko at 380, Rochester at 382, Wabash at 384, Northfield at 393, Valley at 404, and North Miami at 424.
One note among the scores was for Rochester was a score drop from Kalvary Lingenfelter, who was disqualified for signing an incorrect scorecard. That subtraction took Rochester from finishing third to finishing sixth, and it took Lingenfelter out of a spot on the All-TRC team.
Tippecanoe Valley will next compete Tuesday on the road against Northfield and Wabash.
