Elinor E. Avery — UPDATED
Elinor E. Avery, 77, Plymouth, formerly of Syracuse, passed away on Friday, May 4, 2018, in McAllen, Texas. She was born July 17, 1940, in Warsaw to John and Francis (Estep) Holloway.
She graduated in 1958 from Syracuse High School and was married on June 5, 1971, in Syracuse, to Frederick L. “Fred” Avery who survives. She retired from Monsanto Corp. in Ligonier after 35+ years of service and was at that time the highest ranking female employee at the plant. She lived most of her life in the Syracuse and Plymouth area and wintered in McAllen, Texas.
She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star in Goshen, American Legion Auxiliary in Syracuse, and enjoyed crafts.
She is survived by her husband, Fred Avery, Plymouth; a daughter, Joni (Vivian) Pearson, McKinney, Texas; a son, David (Karen) Denney, Plymouth; step-son, Fred (Cheryl) Avery, Wakarusa; five grandchildren and one great granddaughter; sister, Mary Bowlin, Fort Wayne; brother, John Holloway, Syracuse.
She was preceded in death by her parents, grandson, Vincent Soto, and two brothers, Hallie and Ashley Holloway.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 9, at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 10, in the funeral home with Pastor Kirk Barger of the Wawasee Community Bible Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Syracuse Cemetery.
