Warsaw Tennis: Singles Stellar In Victory
CULVER – The Warsaw girls tennis team continued its winning ways Thursday night.
The Tigers dominated on all three singles courts to defeat Culver Academy 4-1 in a non-conference match.
The varsity only match, which was originally scheduled to be played at Warsaw, was moved indoors to the Gable Tennis Complex at Culver Academy due to the weather.
Liza Lewis was untouchable at No. 1 singles to lead the way for Warsaw. The senior southpaw, who will play at Marian University next season, won 6-0, 6-0 over Margaret Davidson.
Senior Ella Knight, who had the clinching point in a huge 3-2 conference win at Concord Wednesday night, topped Lillia Rosique 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles action.
Sophomore Alyssa Zellers completed the sweep with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 3 singles over Chao-Chin Hsu.
The No. 2 doubles team of Reagan Merchant and Rachel Yeager rallied to outlast Abby Ericsson and Anna Moreno 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (10-8).
The hosts won at No. 1 doubles as Rachel Dodson and Madeline Rahe beat Taylor Shoaf and Amy Herendeen 6-3, 6-0.
Warsaw improves to 10-3 on the season. The Tigers will host Goshen Monday night in its regular-season and NLC finale. Warsaw is 6-0 in the NLC and can win the league championship outright with a victory over the RedHawks.
The Tigers will then play in the NLC Tournament May 9-11 at Plymouth before hosting their own sectional starting on May 16.
