Valley Track: Vikings Win Both Versus Culver
AKRON — Tippecanoe Valley’s track and field teams both got the better of visiting Culver Community in a dual meet at home Thursday.
Valley’s boys won, 66-56, while the Lady Vikings ran away with a dominant 98-19 victory.
Valley’s girls won every event but the 3200, and went one-two in seven different events, including a sweep of the top three in both the 100-meter hurdles and the 100 dash.
Sidney Wagner won both the 800 (2:44) and 1600 (6:18) and finished second in the long jump (13’6 1/2”) behind teammate Alyssa Brito (14’1”). Brito collected a second win in the 200 meters (28:13) ahead of Cheyene Oldfather (28.91), while Hannah Gibbons was tops in the shot (31’7) and placed second in the discus behind Valley’s Cora Alber (84’11”). Olivia Smith won the high jump (4’4”), and Valeria Jimenez (1:07) and Emily Murphy (1:13) went one-two in the 400 meters. Caleigh Byrer won both the high hurdles (18:09) and the 300 lows (55:28), and Gabby Olson (18:09) and Haley Hoover (21:33) finished in second and third place, respectively, in the 100 highs, while Sarah Tucker (13:62), Marissa McLean (14:09) and Jada Hicks (14:93) finished in order in the top three spots in the 100-meter dash. The Lady Vikings swept all three relays but only had competition in the 4×100.
Valley’s boys collected wins in just five events but showed some depth in the win over Culver.
Dakota Parker (51:90) and Jordan Owens (55:46) finished one-two in the 400, and Dakota (2:20), Cameron Parker (2:33) and Chase Brower (2:34) went one-two-three in the 800 meters. Jameson Baker won the discus (135’2”), followed by teammate Will Hassenplug in third (127’), and the two went one-three in the shot put as well with throws of 52’3 1/2” and 42’1”. Jon Humes (17’11”) and Brower (16’8) took first and second in the long jump, and Valley’s boys won both the 4×400 and the 4×800 relays.
