BREAKING: Storm Causes Train To Derail
MILFORD — Straight line winds are believed to have caused a number of cars on a westbound CSX train to derail, including the engines. The derailment occurred three miles west of Milford.
Shortly before midnight, a westbound train on the CSX line, derailed just east of CR 300W (CR 15 in Elkhart County) off CR 1350N. The empty inter-modal cars along with the engines derailed on both the west and eastbound sides of the tracks. All train traffic on the CSX line through the area has been stopped.
Crews are expected to arrive shortly to begin clearing the tracks, which are expected to be reopened by noon.
Officials have closed CR 200W (CR 17) and CR 300W to all traffic to allow CSX equipment to get to the site.
It is unknown if the crew in the engines were injured.
Nappanee Fire Department received the initial call at approximately 11:50 p.m. Wednesday evening. Milford Fire Department was called in to relieve Nappanee firefighters around 3 a.m.
More photos from the scene will be added after daylight.
