WARSAW — The Warsaw Community Career Center will host the following events in May. The Career Center is adjacent to the Goodwill retail store at 751 Anchorage Point Drive, Warsaw. All Career Center events are free and open to the public.
Goodwill Industries International Week
- May 7 to 13
Many of the following events are scheduled during Goodwill Industries Week, held this year from May 7 through 13. It is celebrated annually by Goodwill Agencies throughout the country to bring awareness to the programs and services that Goodwill offers. Goodwill believes in the power of work to change lives. Their mission is to strengthen communities by empowering individuals and families through education, training and job placement.
Doughnuts and Dialogue
- Monday, May 7 — 10 a.m. to noon
Kick off Goodwill’s International Celebration Week by stopping in and grabbing a free cup of coffee, a Rise N’ Roll doughnut and discuss anything career-related with Goodwill staff. They can guide you in the right direction toward a possible career path, part-time side work, volunteer opportunities or simply provide you with motivation to take the next step in your life. They are there to provide a safe, judgment free space for you to talk, discuss your needs and explore life and career options.

Join Goodwill from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, for a job fair. Participating companies include: Flexaust, Staffmark (hiring for Medtronic, LSC Communications and more), Home Helpers, Beacon Health Systems, Sonoco (manufacturer/packager in Akron), Caresource, Collier’s Heating & Cooling, Seasons Home Care, Nurses Etc., Early Childhood Alliance, KGPCo, Kitchens to Go and more to come. All the companies will be screening and interviewing on the spot, so bring a résumé, dress professionally and be prepared to leave with potential job offers that day.
Clerical/Administrative Skills Workshop
- Wednesday, May 9 — 11 a.m. to noon
Learn the tools needed to work in an office setting with this exclusive workshop. They will cover computer skills, how to enter data into a spreadsheet, write a business e-mail, schedule on calendars and create a marketing flyer for an event or promotion. They will assist you in making a brief PowerPoint presentation and cover topics such as operating a general multifaceted office printer to send a fax and make copies. Landing a clerical/administrative job shouldn’t be scary. Let Goodwill make you confident by brushing up on your abilities and showing you tricks and tips that will make you more marketable for an office position.
Open Practice Interviews
- Wednesday, May 9 — 1 to 2 p.m.

- Wednesday, May 23 — 1 to 2 p.m.
The Goodwill Career Center will host open mock interviews for anyone who would like to practice their interview skills. If you’re nervous about having an interview or struggling to land a job because of the interview process, these mock sessions will prepare you for the types of questions (from basic to personal) that could be asked. They will discuss how to answer the difficult questions and what to avoid. You’ll also learn how to appear confident and highlight your skills in the conversation. Another topic will be how personal appearance makes a great first impression in an interview. Please choose a date and time to stop by and practice your interview skills and receive a 25 percent discount to the Goodwill retail store.
Computer Skills Assessment

Want to see how far your computer knowledge can go? Find out your strengths and areas that can be worked on and build from there. You’ll receive a printout of your assessment breakdown. After the assessment, they will design a one-on-one plan to tackle where you want to go next with your digital skills.
Basic Excel Assessment

Want to see where to start with Microsoft Excel—whether you’re a beginner or a more advanced user? Let Goodwill Career Center determine your strengths and find areas that can be worked on. You’ll receive a printout of your assessment breakdown. After the assessment, they will design a one-on-one plan to tackle where you want to go next with your Excel knowledge.
Leadership Skills in Business: Earn a Certificate
- Friday, May 11 — 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Goodwill Career Center will assist you with this free online course through Alison, a website designed to empower you with training courses from the world’s leading experts. Successful businesses need more than good ideas. They need good leaders. This course reviews the essential leadership skills that entrepreneurs and business minded people need. Learn to organize your company, select and manage your business team, behave as a business professional and more. Learning all of this will prepare you for success and provide you with the knowledge to go out and lead. Please allow at least two hours for this course, as the recommended time to complete and earn the certificate is between two to three hours.
Veterans Employment Services
- Wednesday, May 16 — 10 a.m. to noon
Daniel Reed from WorkOne will be at the Goodwill Career Center to provide information to veterans on services in the local area. He will offer one-on-one employment help, employer resources, information on benefits and contacts for further services.
Basic Excel Introduction
- Tuesday, May 22 — 11 a.m. to noon
This event will be hands-on and guided with several tutorials on Excel’s basic functions and tools. The class will cater to both those seeking introductory Excel knowledge, as well as those who want to further their Excel abilities. It will cover Excel essential tools and then work up to formatting and designing a standard spreadsheet with information.
Job Search Online Workshop
- Thursday, May 24 — 11 a.m. to noon
Struggling with navigating the internet, searching for a job and/or applying online? Stop by the Career Center so they can help you search for open positions and get assistance with online applications. They will navigate multiple job search sites and ensure your info, attachments, résumé and cover letter are entered correctly. They will also assist with what info to include, wording and highlighting key words and skills to make sure you stand out in the application filtration systems companies may use.
