Letter To The Editor: Dave Wolkins
Dear Editor:
I want to take this opportunity to encourage everyone to vote next week. It has been a while since I’ve had a primary opponent and it has been a pleasure to attend so many events and talk to so many voters. We both will have similar voting records, but there are two topics on which we have differing views.
Mr. Reahard supports HB 1097, the total ban of all abortions now and charging all women with murder from here on out. This concept has no chance of getting through any court and will cost taxpayers up to $300,000 in court fees. Indiana has spent about $2.5 million defending the five bills since 2010 that have been struck down. None of these five were as radical as HB 1097.
When President Trump replaces some of the activist judges on the Supreme court and HB 1097 has even a small chance of becoming law, then I will support it.
The other issue deals with constitutional carry, meaning anyone can carry anywhere, anytime without any type of permit. While I support the concept, voters in Kosciusko County do not by a very large margin. So as a Representative, I will not support it until at least a majority of voters come to that conclusion.
See you at the polls next Tuesday.
Dave Wolkins, State Representative
