Dr. Pam Galloway Supports Curt Nisly For District 22 Representative
To the editor:
The words of a candidate running for public office must be carefully scrutinized. Kimberly Cates, running against incumbent State Representative Curt Nisly, revealed her lack of understanding of the Second Amendment at the Warsaw debate April 24.
In answer to the constitutional carry question, Cates stated, “I don’t believe, especially in this climate, I don’t feel someone who is carrying around a loaded handgun on their person needs to not be qualified in some way.”
That statement is concerning because it implies that our constitutional right should be infringed by the current political climate. What if the climate changes to gun confiscation?
Cates goes on to say, “If you’re going to have it on your person and it’s going to be loaded, then you should actually meet some criteria for that even if it’s not for you but for your fellow people around you so they know that if you walk in with a loaded gun on (sic) your holster…then you know that they’re not going to worry or fret.”
Do we have to consider other people’s emotions when we exercise our other constitutional rights, like free speech? Self-defense is a God given right, yet Mrs. Cates would want to have this right restricted.
District 22 already has a staunch defender of the Second Amendment in our State Representative Curt Nisly. Re-elect Curt Nisly on May 8.
