Warsaw Sports Wrap: April 30
Softball
The Warsaw softball team showed its mettle Monday.
The Tigers overcame an early five-run deficit to rally past Elkhart Memorial for a thrilling 8-7 win.
Emali Grose was the hero for the host Tigers as she delivered a two-run double in the final inning to lift her team to the walk-off win.
Grose’s game winning shot off a 1-2 pitch capped a five-run seventh inning as Warsaw won the Northern Lakes Conference contest in dramatic fashion.
Saylor Bradley smacked a two-run double and Lindsey Bradley had an RBI single in the final at-bat for the Tigers to put them in position to win on Grose’s hit. Grose’s shot over the right fielder’s head scored both Saylor Bradley and courtesy runner Maddie Lane to give Warsaw the win.
Memorial scored five runs in the top of the first to take control early on. Warsaw got a pair of runs in the third to make it 5-2. Memorial scored once in the fourth and once in the seventh and the Tigers had one in the fifth to make it 7-3 going to the final inning.
Courtney Chookie got the pitching win for Warsaw. She allowed just two earned runs on 10 hits over seven innings with four strikeouts and one walk.
Shelby Buss took the pitching loss for Memorial.
Izzy Dittmar and Lindsey Bradley each had multiple hits to lead Warsaw.
The Tigers won despite committing seven errors in the game.
Buss and Leah Wade each had multiple hits for Memorial.
Warsaw improves to 6-8 overall and moves to 4-3 in the NLC. The Tigers host Wawasee in another league game Wednesday night.
Baseball
The Warsaw baseball team came up just short in dropping a 9-8 final to Elkhart Memorial.
The host Crimson Chargers scored five runs in the fourth inning en route to the Northern Lakes Conference win.
Warsaw trailed 7-3 before plating four runs in the fifth frame to tie the game. Memorial then scored twice in the home half of the sixth inning to make it 9-7. The Tigers scored one run in their final at-bat in the seventh.
Noah Burgh slugged a home run for the Tigers.
The duo of Jared Hawley and Kyle Kuhn each had three hits for Warsaw.
Ian Glogovsky took the pitching loss for the Tigers.
Warsaw drops to 3-9 overall and 1-6 in NLC action.
The Warsaw JV team suffered its first loss of the season with an 7-6 loss at Memorial.
Gage Lyon led the JV Tigers with two hits, including a home run, and two RBI. Alex Light pitched 3.2 innings with four strikeouts and three walks for Warsaw, now 10-1-1.
The Tigers play at Wawasee in another NLC contest Wednesday evening.
