NorthWood Football: Smart Inks With Indy
NAPPANEE – NorthWood senior standout De’Andre Smart has signed to play football at the University of Indianapolis.
Smart was a two-way starter on the gridiron for coach Nate Andrews’ Panther squad. He ranks first in program history in career touchdown receptions and single-season touchdown catches. Smart had 15 TD receptions in 2016 as the Panthers finished as Class 4-A state runner-up.
Smart was a three-year letter winner in football and finished with 80 career receptions to go with 23 total touchdowns. He will play for the North team in the annual North/South All-Star game in Indianapolis this summer.
Smart, who was a two-time All-Northern Lakes Conference pick, also had six interceptions and 109 tackles in his prep career as a defensive back.
Smart, who is the son of Jake and Lindsay Yoder, also was a three-year letter winner for coach Aaron Wolfe’s basketball program.
Smart earned a NorthWood Scholar Athlete Award. He was also the 2017 Rod Broadway Special Teams Player of the Year in football and the 2018 Defensive Player of the Year for basketball.
The University of Indianapolis finished 11-1 during the 2017 season, notching its first undefeated regular season in 64 years. The Greyhounds, who are coached by Bob Bartolomeo, compete in NCAA Division II and play in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
