NorthWood Baseball: Panthers Rally Past Bremen
BREMEN – The NorthWood baseball team capped a perfect week with an improbable win Saturday.
The Panthers scored five runs in their final at-bat to edge host Bremen 5-4 in non-conference play.
NorthWood, which went 6-0 playing every day this week, scored all four of its runs with two outs in the top of the seventh inning to erase a 4-1 deficit.
Payton Bear, who led the Panthers with a 4-4 hitting day, rapped a two-out single to start the rally. Matt Dutkowski followed with a single and Alec Holcomb then delivered an RBI single to make it 4-2. Hunter Warren then drew a walk to load the bases and Cam Hershberger then cracked a two-run single to tie the game at 4-4. Sawyer Warren then smacked an RBI double with two strikes to give his team the lead.
Warren also earned the pitching win for the Panthers, who improve to 12-1 on the season. He went the final three innings, giving up just two hits and no runs while striking out four and walking one. Preston King went the first four innings, giving up just one earned run while striking out six and walking none.
The Panthers piled up 13 hits in the victory. Warren contributed a pair of doubles off the bench. Kyle Hauptli also had a pair of hits for the winners.
NorthWood returns to NLC action by hosting Goshen Monday evening. The Panthers led the league with a perfect 5-0 mark.
