Baseball
Two big innings essentially undid Tippecanoe Valley’s baseball team as host Northfield handed the Vikings a 10-8 Three Rivers Conference loss Wednesday.
The Norsemen plated five runs in the second, then rallied back from a 7-6 deficit with four runs in the bottom of the sixth and held on for the win.
Ethan Yates and Layne Prater finished with two hits each for Valley, and Payton Mills and Jack Utter scored two runs each for the Vikings.
Matt Coe went 3 for 4 at the dish for Northfield, including a double, and Chance Hartman also went 3 for 4 for the home team.
Adam Myers took the loss on the mound, striking out five while walking two and giving up four hits for four runs — two earned — in 4 1/3 innings.
Nate Drancik got the win, walking none with four Ks and giving up two hits for two runs in two innings of work.
Valley slides to 2-8 overall and 0-3 in the TRC. The Vikings play a doubleheader at Glenn Saturday at 10 a.m.
Softball
Tippecanoe Valley’s softball team recorded just three hits, and the Lady Vikings were shut out a second straight night in a 10-0 Three Rivers Conference loss at Northfield Wednesday night.
Sydney Howard, Taylor Czichilski and Alex Gomez recorded Valley’s only three hits of the night. Howard took the loss inside the circle, giving up nine hits with a walk and four strikeouts for 10 runs, but only three were earned as Valley’s defense committed five costly errors.
Ally Keaffaber, Kiana Kendall and Abby Hunter all doubled as part of two-hit nights for Northfield, and Hunter and Keaffaber drove in three runs apiece for the Lady Norsmen, who plated five runs in the bottom of the sixth to end the game early.
Valley slips to 3-6 overall and 2-1 in the TRC with its first conference loss. The Lady Vikings will host a tournament Saturday beginning at 9 a.m.
